Our origins
At the end of 2023, Springfield Fellwalking Club celebrated our 57th Anniversary.
Our Origins began from the Springfields Nuclear Fuel Manufacturing Plant near Preston when many workers in Springfields Social Club banded together with a common purpose, to enjoy good company walking in the open air whilst enjoying wonderful scenery. All at a reasonable cost and often cheaper than doing it individually.
We became independent of Springfields Social Club some years ago and the Club was renamed Springfield Fell Walking Club. The original structure of the club was retained, passing the test of time without much change and serves well in the current era.

When we walk
We walk every alternate Saturday and have 3 grades of walks lead by experienced walkers; A, B and C, to cater for different levels of ability. The list below is for guidance only, as some walks may be slightly harder or easier, depending on the location.
The walks programme shows the distance and height of each walk. Each walk is led by an experienced club member. Typically, the distance and height of the walks is as follows:
Distance Height Climbed (Total Ascent)
Grade A 13 miles 3,000 feet
Grade B 11 miles 2,500 feet
Grade C 9 miles 1,000 feet
The day's walking is normally followed by a pub meal during the journey home. This depends on the coach distance travelled. If this option does not suit you, some members just discuss the flavour of the day and have a quiet drink. Please ensure you bring cash for the evening meal (Circa £15.00).
Coach pickups are between Blackpool and The Black Bull, Fulwood, Preston. See our Coach Pick Up Points & Times page.
New members are always welcome.
